Learn the Power of Being Less Emotional, More Stoic

Let’s talk about emotions. You’ve been in quarantine since March of this year. Maybe you’ve lost your job. You’re overwhelmed with what you see on the news. You have to put on a mask and gloves to go to the grocery store. When you see people walk towards you on the street, you quickly move away. The world as we know it is no longer the same. So how are you feeling today? What emotions are you going through? Being emotional is not a bad thing. In fact, it is good to be in tune with your emotions, to give yourself the space to feel and acknowledge them, and to understand their value. But if you often find yourself being over-emotional about every single thing you encounter during your day, and if those emotions drive you to make decisions that will likely not be the best choice for you, your health or well-being, and ultimately your future — then yes, it’s beneficial to practice habits to keep those emotions in check.

Instead of letting emotions take over, you can develop skills that will help you make better and smarter decisions. Use logic (not panic) when you’re trying to overcome an obstacle. Use critical thinking skills (instead of mimicking what other people do) to understand a problem. Learn to work with feelings of discomfort (instead of saying, I can’t do it!) and allow yourself to be outside your comfort zone often, so that when you’re experiencing…
