In case you missed part 1 of this series, I gave a few scenarios of what a cluttered mind looks (or sounds) like. I also shared some fascinating data published by psychologists from Queen’s University in Canada, namely that the average person typically has around 6,200 thoughts a day. It’s no wonder, then, that we find it a challenge to manage the influx of our daily thoughts, let alone know what to do about them. Do we analyze each one, do we allow them to dictate how our day will go, or do we dismiss some and take action on others?

Everyone has their own story of how they cope, but for most of us, it goes something like this.

It’s morning and you’re already overwhelmed.

You might recognize this scenario. As soon as you wake up, your mind feels like it’s already racing at full speed with all kinds of thoughts. If you’ve experienced this yourself, you are not alone. Going from a sleep state to a conscious state is like turning on a switch in the mind, and the next thing you know you feel upset and exasperated. You seem to remember everything that is going on in your world — all at the same time.
